Casinos are always tinkering with ideas to upgrade their properties and enhance customer experience.

So it comes as no surprise that Boyd Gaming has opted to improve the look and use of its B Connected mobile sports app.

Boyd has teamed with IGT, which features its PlaySports technology, to give the B Connected app a fresh look, just in time for the NFL season.

Boyd didn’t want to change the brand recognition, just the product itself. And the changes are noticeable. The menu is more expansive with prop bets and in-game betting opportunities. The graphics are sharper and easier to read along with quicker score updates. Overall, the app is easier to navigate and use.

“Mobile and in-play sports betting are more popular than ever, so the new and improved B Connected Sports app comes at the perfect time,” said Bob Scucci, Boyd Gaming’s Vice President of Race and Sports Operations. “With B Connected Sports, we’ve created a mobile experience that is both easy-to-use and unrivaled in its selection of betting options, making it one of the most robust sports betting products in the state of Nevada.”

Scucci said the fresh look for the app has been in the planning stages for some time.

“We started planning this back in January,” Scucci said. “But then the (coronavirus) pandemic hit and we were on pause for a couple of months. But to get this out in time for football is remarkable and that was our goal.”

Scucci said not only is the look appealing, but the broader menu and ability to do matchups and in-game wagering easier with the new app.

“The user interface is tremendous and the graphics are great,” he said. “But I like the expanded menu the best. We can offer sports that we couldn’t in the past, things like rugby and darts.”

Though B Connected has had a sports betting app for a while, it has an opportunity to not only keep its existing clientele, but market to new customers.

“If you already have an account with us, your balance was transferred over to the new app,” Scucci said. “You may have to come in and update some of your personal information, but for all intents and purposes, you’re good to go with the new app.”

The rollout of the new B Connected sports app was the first of a multiple phased plan. When Phase 2 launches in November, look for special promotions and signup incentives as well as a potential single-wallet for horse racing and sports.

“The goal is for November but some of it is up to the state’s regulators,” Scucci said. “But we did a soft rollout to be able to be ready for the start of football, which we were able to do. The IGT people and our folks did a great job of getting us ready.”

IGT recently announced a partnership with FanDuel, which currently does not do business in Nevada but also has a relationship with Boyd Gaming. Could the IGT-Boyd deal perhaps allow Boyd and FanDuel to ultimately join forces in the Silver State?

“FanDuel is a partner of ours and we’re always looking to do things with them,” Scucci said. “For right now, there’s no plans to do business with FanDuel in Nevada. But that’s always open to change.”

Despite the fact sportsbooks are limited to the number of customers that can congregate inside the Boyd properties, and everywhere in Las Vegas for that matter, Scucci expects betting on the app to be huge for the NFL.

“I expect this to be our biggest NFL season in terms of betting with the app,” he said. “With the in-game wagering and the ease of doing it, I think it’s going to be really big.

“That’s why we wanted to be ready to launch the new app. The timing couldn’t be better.”

Advantages to BConnected Sports over competitors

Disadvantages BConnected Sports has over competitors

Boyd Gaming Sports Betting App Yahoo

  • The Miomni app is not unique. It is used by Treasure Island, Wynn andWestgate. These casinos offer better odds than Boyd Gaming does on parlays, baseball, teasers and futures bets. These competitors also post lines faster.
  • Boyd Gaming requires players to go to the sports book to make a deposit and withdrawal.
  • The app has an annoying bug that makes it not launch if the device’s wifi is activated. A data subscription is required on the device for it to work. The BConnected Sports app cannot be wagered on with a tablet that does not have an associated cell service package. Bettors cannot even open the app to look at the lines. This is one of the biggest complaints about the product.
  • There are fewer sports available on the app.
  • The $5 minimum bet is on par with others in the market, although some accept $2 wagers. The $500 max bet is the lowest among all Nevada sports apps.
  • Players outside of Las Vegas have no deposit options for the app. This will make it undesirable for most players in rural and northern Nevada.
